Introduction to Re-use
Although the term software crisis is an old one (McIllroy 1976), the problem it describes is still real. The term expresses a discrepancy between the demand for large complex software systems and the ability to build such systems. Existing solutions to the problem are higher level languages and the usage of tools. These solutions, however, only partially solve the problem. Other ideas, such as automating the production process and the usage of existing (software) parts, are only applied in very restricted domains
