Abstract

The commonest benign tumour of the perianal region and the anal canal is viral in origin and takes the form of multiple warts or condyloma acuminata. These have been recognised from ancient times (Oriel, 1971)1. They are often associated with vulval or penile warts (Abcarian et al.,1976)2. They are shown to contain intranuclear inclusion bodies (Oriel and Almeida, 1970)3 and have been shown to be associated with papilloma virus (Frazer et al., 1986)4.
