Colonic volvulus is a rotation, most commonly of the sigmoid colon and less commonly of the ileocaecal region. Bruusgaard (1947)1 reported that colonic volvulus involved the sigmoid colon in 65% of cases, the ileocaecal region in 32% and the transverse colon in 3% of cases.
