Abstract

Nil by mouth for 4 h before. 400 ml of oral contrast is usually sufficient given 20 min prior to the scan, as only the bowel in the upper abdomen needs to be opacified. The empty fundus of the stomach may occasionally be mistaken for a left adrenal mass, so ensure that the stomach is full of contrast.
