Abstract
My first experience of computing was with the Ferranti Pegasus in 1959. This was a machine with a few hundred bytes of memory held in delay lines and a cathode ray storage tube, a magnetic drum but no disk and originally not even a magnetic tape drive. All input and output was by means of 5 hole paper tape. Nevertheless it was a great advance on log tables or even electric calculators and many complex calculations were done through the long hours of the night.
