Abstract
This paper discusses the derivation of a natural set of semantic primitives from a machine readable dictionary, especially the Longman Dictionary of Contemporary English (henceforth LDOCE). It is part of a on-going project under way at the Computing Research Laboratory (Wilks, et al. 1988). The project is currently funded by the National Science Foundation.
