Abstract
Inclusion polymorphism is one of the fundamental innovations of object technology (others are the adoption of the object as the unit of encapsulation and the use of inheritance for incremental programming), and is widely touted as enhancing the extensibility and maintainability of object oriented programs compared with structured (e. g. Pascal) or object-based (e. g. Ada-83) programs.
