Abstract
Screening has been advocated as a means of control for various other cancer sites, four of which are reviewed here. Lung cancer, although theoretically preventable, is still the commonest cancer in the developed world and is rapidly increasing in developing countries. Studies of screening, however, have led to the conclusion that it is largely ineffective due to the rapid progression of potentially fatal disease.
