Abstract

The lack of effective and inclusive global governance on issues such as, financial stability, trade, climate change and security will be a source of increasing risks in the next decade. Manufacturing continuously meets regional economic and/or political crises. In addition, more global economic downturns, as experienced throughout 2008 and 2009, have challenged the established industry. These crises often tend to cause a society to restructure and ‘renew’ industries where some companies fail because they don’t have the right strategies or abilities to survive while other companies succeed by finding new markets and business opportunities based on new competencies. Coming from on a variety data sources, ‘The Global Competitiveness Report’ published by the World Economic Forum is a comprehensive assessment of more than 130 economies. Fortunately, the picture of potential ‘winners’ and ‘losers’ in the world of manufacturing is changeable. There will normally be political, cultural and other external factors in the business environment, that when combined with factors and decisions taken by companies, organizations and individuals can alter the competitive landscape.
