Abstract
Chapter 5 discusses the principle of the per-packet QoS approach called differentiated queueing service (DQS). This chapter further discusses a cost model corresponding to the QoS service provided by DQS. Since the objective of DQS is to cost-effectively satisfy the QoS requirements of applications, it is necessary to have a cost model that can properly reflect the cost for a QoS service provided by the network for and actually received by an application. This model is useful both for establishing a reasonable charging scheme and for preventing users from abusing QoS services provided by the network.
