Abstract
Transcatheter aortic valve replacement (TAVR) is a revolutionary treatment modality that has proven efficacy in patients with symptomatic, severe aortic stenosis (AS). While there are a number of methods for implantation of the stented valve, the transfemoral (TF) route has emerged as the “default” for patients with appropriate vascular access. Appropriate patient selection, as well as the ability to perform TF-TAVR successfully and minimize the risk of vascular complications, rests on a thorough pre-procedural analysis of the aortoiliofemoral system. This is generally accomplished using all or a combination of the following multimodality imaging: angiography, intravascular ultrasound (IVUS), and multidetector computed tomography (MDCT). We will concentrate this chapter on the analysis of angiography and IVUS.
