Abstract

This chapter provides guidance on system development life cycle methodologies and on best practices for project management of packaged and in-house developed systems. Project organization, including roles and responsibilities, is covered. There are many aspects of package software management that are generic; however, there are certainly unique aspects when managing package software systems. Thus, this chapter provides an understanding of where these unique challenges occur in the life cycle of package software projects. It also focuses on the ongoing support issues that must be addressed to attain best practices.
