Abstract

In common with many other computer-based algebra systems that are designed as input/output systems, Mathematica accepts a task (input) and provides the solution (output). To ensure that it can be used on many different computers, two basic principles were followed in writing the Mathematica software:
  1. 1.

The kernel is the same for all computers.

  2. 2.

The front end depends on the type of machine.
