Abstract

The advent of silicon controlled rectifiers (SCR) in 1957 enlarged the scope of the technology for speed control of DC-motors. Developments in SCR units for power control have made modern speed control units cheaper and more compact than conventional ones. The new systems have better dynamic response than the older ones. Developments in digital computer technology in the last decades have further increased the field of DC-motor speed control. Microcomputers are nowadays becoming less expensive and so are widely used as dedicated systems for individual control units. Advanced control strategies, as adaptive control, can now be digitalized and implemented with microcomputers. This book will link these new technologies.
