Abstract

Using a data acquisition system controlled by a personal computer to monitor rotating machinery has the benefits of improved accuracy, consistency in analysis procedure and fast performance. The Virginia Tech Rotor Dynamics Laboratory has developed such a system in the Windows 3.0 operating environment; it is called the Intelligent Monitoring System (IMS). This data acquisition system has a modular software design in which specific tasks are controlled by independent and interchangeable software modules. The system has been successfully used to read vibration data from a small test rig and evaluate the rig’s performance.
