Abstract

Reparative giant cell granuloma of the jaw bones is another reactive lesion seen in children and adolescents; it may appear to be a “bone cyst” or may have a destructive area that gives the impression of being a malignant growth. It is a nontumorous lesion, occurring in the jaw bones, that consists of a granulation tissue rich in osteoclastic giant cells and is a reactive organization tissue following traumatic bone damage. An osteoclastoma or “brown tumor” in hyperparathyroidism must be excluded in diagnosis, but most giant cell lesions in the jaws are reparative giant cell granulomas. A simple curettage is the adequate therapy, and complete healing can be expected.
