Acetabular Augmentation in Cemented Arthroplasty: Pre-operative Assessment and Surgical Technique

In the Netherlands the rate of exchange of one or both components of a total hip arthroplasty ranges from 10% to 20%. In our institution the rate is 10%, of which 30% are combined with autogenous and homogenous grafts. The reasons for failure include aseptic loosening, infection, recurrent dislocation, excessive wear and osteolysis. Aseptic loosening is the major cause.
