Abstract

In the linear elastic range the relationship between stress and strain components for an isotropic solid is the following
$$ {\sigma _{{ij}}} = \lambda {\varepsilon _{{kk}}}{\sigma _{{ij}}} + 2\mu {\varepsilon _{{ij}}}, $$

where λ is the Lame constant,
$$ \lambda = \frac{{Ev}}{{(1 + v)(1 - 2v)}} $$

μ = G is the shear modulus of elasticity, E is Young’s modulus and v is Poisson’s ratio.
