The Giants: Biding Their Time

  • Chapter
Past, Present, Parallel

Abstract

Of the companies described in this chapter, only DEC currently produces a truly parallel computer, and even that is marketed as an extension to their existing VAX product line. However, as IBM’s entry into the personal computer market showed in the 1980s, as soon as any of these giants decide to move, their choices will become the framework within which all other companies must operate.
