Abstract

The accident at the nuclear power station at Chernobyl in the USSR on 26 April 1986 affected not only the Soviet Union, but also many other countries in Europe. Radionuclides were deposited over large areas, where they fell to the ground mainly with rain. Radioactive fallout in Sweden was very unevenly distributed (Fig. 17.1).
