Abstract
Research on endometrial function and implantation has usually dealt with morphological changes in response to endocrine stimuli during the menstrual cycle, pregnancy, menopause and cancer. Biochemical events related to morphological changes have been studied during the past 10 years. Like all tissues, the endometrium contains a great number of proteins, many of which are more or less ubiquitous. Our studies have concentrated on placental and endometrial protein secretion and on the local actions of these proteins in the endometrium and elsewhere in the body. This review summarizes our studies on two proteins, namely insulin-like growth factor-binding protein (IGFBP-1) and endometrial protein PP14 (placental protein 14).
