The Socket: Changes at the Bone—Cement Interface

  • Chapter
Revision Surgery in Total Hip Arthroplasty

Abstract

Appearances of the implant—bone interface of a cemented socket have been the subject of many studies and publications. The description and recording of radiographic images are bound to be associated with variations in terminology and differences between observers or between the same observer on different occasions. Even if a classification did become universally acceptable it would have to bear some relation to clinical practice and long-term management. In this context the systematic studies of Hodgkinson et al. (1989a) are most valuable.
