Human, Organisational and Managerial Aspect of CIM

  • Conference paper
Computer Integrated Manufacturing

Summary

The aim of this document is to illustrate the changes to professional skills and labour organisation brought about by the incessant diffusion of automation in our production systems over the last ten years. It is structured as follows:

  1. (1)

The introductory section contains a brief presentation of the Fiat Group as a whole and its main operating division, Fiat Auto.

  2. (2)

The second part features the Cassino plant, where the Tipo and Tempra models are manufactured, and where there is one of the world’s greatest concentrations of automation. A brief video will be shown.

  3. (3)

The central section describes the new professional categories that are necessary to deal with the requirements of such a highly automated plant and, where possible, variations with respect to the current situation.

The basic principles of the new organisation of labour are also described, specifically those applying in production plants.

  4. (4)

The final section describes the problems involved in training these new professional categories.

  5. (5)

The conclusion is that — even in high-tech factories — -organisation and the human factor are critical success factors, and are today those with the widest margin for improvement, and, by their very nature, unique in every situation.
