Reoperations in Patients with Extracardiac Valved Conduits

  • J. Stark

Abstract

Conduits with or without a valve have been used in the repair of complex congenital heart defects. Kirklin and colleagues used a pericardial conduit without a valve from the right ventricle to the pulmonary artery in 1964 (Rastelli et al. 1965). Ross and Somerville (1966) reported the first successful use of a homograft aorta with its valve in the repair of pulmonary atresia with ventricular septal defect. Subsequently, conduits have been used for several complex lesions between various parts of the heart and the great vessels (Table 20.1).
