Abstract
Conventional radiography has been with us for so long that we have forgotten the reasons for the examinations which are now performed routinely. “Antero-posterior and lateral” views were chosen because it was felt that they would demonstrate, or exclude, the cardinal signs of bone and joint disorder. Special views and techniques were developed to assess known abnormalities or to demonstrate or exclude specific entities.
