Abstract
Fractures of the nasal bones are common and are seen either in isolation or, not infrequently, associated with other injuries to the facial bones. They have been classified into linear fractures, lateral fractures, frontal fractures (partial or complete) and fronto-lateral fractures. There is also the very severe “smash fracture”, with flattening and comminution of the nasal bones. This involves the frontal processes of the maxilla, the lacrimal bones and nasal septum, and may extend to the anterior ethmoid cells and cribriform plate.
