Abstract

Time division multiple access techniques are currently used for digital cellular mobile and portable radio systems. Due to transmission bandwidth restrictions, modulation schemes other than QPSK and π/4-DQPSK are desirable. A possible candidate to achieve higher spectral efficiency is M-ary QAM, in particular 16-QAM. In this paper we investigate novel non-data-aided techniques for carrier recovery with 16-QAM preambless transmission. In particular we concentrate on feedforward algorithms suited for full digital implementation. Computer simulations are used to assess the performance of these algorithms and make comparisons with other existing techniques.
