Use of Static Code Analysis to Support the Safety Certification of Airborne Software

Abstract

The UK MoD will shortly take delivery of the Hercules C-130J transport aircraft, which contains a large number of safety-critical software systems. It was therefore decided to carry out a detailed third-party assessment of this software, using Static Code Analysis techniques. This paper describes the experience gained from the assessment project and summarises the benefits obtained.
