Abstract
The transformation from a sequential working enterprise to a CSE oriented enterprise requires not only a fundamental restructuring of the enterprise but also the installation of supporting information systems. Within the CONSENS project such information systems have been elaborated and implemented in the companies of the end-users. Similar to the transition methodology, the information system must fit into the overall strategic of CSE, i.e. contribute to Parallelisation, Standardisation and Integration. In the areas of organisation, process, product and resources, the CONSENS information system fully supports the strategies. For the sake of clarity, the meaning of these strategy factors is recapitulated before the relation of basic modules of a CSE information and CSE strategy is described. Parallelisation means the capability to carry out interrelated processes simultaneously. Standardisation is the unification of processes which show a high degree of similarity or the possibility of repetition. Integration is summoning and carrying out simultaneously different aspects related to product development. For integration, the product and the development process must be regarded as an entirety (see figure 5.1).
