Abstract

Ultrasonic imaging of the heart or “echocardiography” based on pulsed echo techniques, allows the movements of intracardiac structures to be studied noninvasively with ease and reproducibility. The echo signal indicates the presence and location of a structure along the sound beam. Ultrasound technology has advanced substantially in the past few years. It is a safe, cost-effective, powerful tool for the assessment of cardiac anatomy and pathology.
