Abstract

This Syndrome, seen in children during the first and second years of life, may be defined as an intolerance to and malabsorption of a protein component in cow’s milk, resulting in diarrhoea, weight loss and generally failure to thrive. Although it has been shown that beta-lactoglobulin is the most ‘allergenic’ [1,14] protein in cow’s milk, it is not the only protein to which intolerance may be developed [3]. The Syndrome is clinically recognised when withdrawal of cow’s milk causes improvement and re-introduction results in deterioration [3,15].
