Abstract
Is it worthwhile for our patients, to try and develop an appliance-free urinary diversion, with a urinary reservoir, to be emptied by self-catheterisation? This is a challenging question and justifies a small number of urologists throughout the world studying a choice of viscus from which a urinary reservoir can be constructed, with modifications in technique to try and make this type of diversion a viable alternative to urinary conduits.
If surgeons are to have a more radical approach to total cystectomy... it would be clinically acceptable to surgeons and socially acceptable to patients if better methodsof urinary diversion could be offered. (Blandy 1964)
