Abstract
Semantic and diagnostic confusion concerning sclerosing bone dysplasias poses special problems for radiologists. This difficulty was brought forcefully to our attention when one of our first patients presented with a familial skeletal disorder which had been labelled at various times as ‘Albers-Schönberg disease’, ‘marble bones’, ‘osteopetrosis’, ‘leontiasis ossea’ and ‘Pyle disease’. Following clinical and radiographic investigations, it became evident that he had the autosomal dominant form of craniometaphyseal dysplasia.
