Abstract
The sclerosing bone dysplasias are characterised by varying degrees of increased skeletal density and abnormal modelling. Osteopetrosis, or Albers-SchöNberg disease, is the prototype and best known of these disorders but many others have now been delineated. They differ in their course, prognosis and genetic background, and for this reason diagnostic precision is crucial. In the majority, this is achieved by recognition of the characteristic radiographic manifestations and consequently the radiologist plays a key role in the management of patients with these conditions
