Abstract
Up to four antigenic constituents have been found in the plasma of pregnant women which are not detectable in non-pregnant female or male plasma (GALL and HALBERT, 1972). These antigens have been named “pregnancy-associated plasma proteins” (PAPP) and lettered “A, B, C, D” according to the position of their precipitin line on an immunodiffusion plate, starting from the antigen well.
These investigations were supported by a research grant from the Royal Society.
The author is deeply indebted to Dr. N.A. Booth, to Dr. J.E. Fothergill, and to Professor A. Klopper, for their advice and interest in this work.
