Abstract
When the war was over, Walter Fletcher wrote to the Dean at UCH Medical School in December 1918 saying that the Medical Research Committee would like to re-establish a department in the school ‘having as its primary object the advancement of knowledge of the cardiovascular system’.486, This was agreed to and in January 1919 Lewis was appointed a full Physician to the hospital and also Physician-in-Charge of the Cardiographic Department. This was a hospital service department, like the X-ray department, but his research work had the separate MRC title, ‘Department of Clinical Research’.
