Abstract

DVT is the most serious venous disease of the legs. DVT and its dreaded complication, pulmonary embolism, are collectively called “venous thromboembolic” disease. VTE is the third most common cardiovascular disease after ischemic heart disease and stroke. It is associated with more than 300 000 hospitalizations and at least 50 000 fatalities annually in the USA. [1]
