Abstract
India is the third largest tobacco-producing country in the world: China produces 30%, the United States 9% and India 7.9% of the world’s tobacco. Out of a total of 6 million million kg of tobacco produced globally, 450–500 million kg are grown in India. In our country, 30% is used in manufacturing bidis or biris, 20% for chewing, 15% for cigarettes and 6% for export. We produce 900 million million bidis and about 120 million million cigarettes per day.
