Convergence, Software Agents and Information Ecosystems

  • E.H Mamdani

Abstract

This chapter is about convergence and its probable future impact upon our society. The effects of convergence can already be seen in the world’s economy and society. Many of the current events are transient phenomena that will not last, while others give a clear hint of the trends and suggest which way we are likely to go in the future. Unfortunately, it is not easy to tell the lasting from the transient while we are in the middle of the ongoing developments. All we can say is that something significant and important for the future is taking place as a result of advances in digital technologies and communications networks. Our aim in this chapter is to try to step back from current developments in the hope that we can see some of the underlying trends.
