Cost validation at the end of the design stage is of critical importance for the automotive industry. This paper focuses on the development of a methodology for cost analysis of new design concepts in the preliminary phase of the automotive Product Development Process (PDP). The development of a generic Optimisation System to facilitate the design process will be discussed. The Optimisation System is aimed at providing the Design Department with the option to analyze the relative cost of new design concepts and to assist with the cost reduction in the Early Phase of product development.
