Overcoming Light Pollution

Abstract

I first began taking astrophotographs over thirty years ago, and although there was little light pollution then, film was slow and grainy. However, the more film improved over the years the worse light pollution got. It was very much one step forward, two steps backward! Where I live, on the northern fringe of the Greater Manchester conurbation, conventional astrophotography had become almost impossible. The arrival of CCDs, making the impossible possible, changed all that.
