Abstract

All of the applications that we use every day, such as browsers, word processors and spreadsheets, are made up of standard components, including buttons, lists and edit boxes. The visual programming languages such as Delphi and Visual Basic allow you to develop professional standard user interfaces for your applications easily. Java has access to a set of standard components through the Abstract Windowing Toolkit or AWT. The toolkit is in the package java.awt. If you are familiar with visual programming you will find many of the concepts such as event driven programming and the use of components to build graphical user interfaces more straightforward.
