Abstract

Graphics help to bring a dull applet or Web page to life. One of the first uses of Java was to add animation to Web pages to make them look more interesting. If this was the only use of Java it would be worthwhile, but graphics are an invaluable way of expressing information. Reading a description of a fractal is dull and mathematical, but if you see fractals being drawn it quickly becomes clear what they are. Lists of figures which are tedious to interpret are greatly helped by drawing a graph or chart.
