Abstract
Java is an excellent language for writing applications. It is object orientated, it has a similar syntax to the popular C++ language and an extensive set of supporting classes available. If you are developing a stand alone application, Java is a good choice, but if you want to write an application that can be run across the Internet on any platform, from a PC to a mainframe, Java is the only choice. Any computer which has a browser such as Netscape or HotJava can run Java applications, or applets as they are called.
