Abstract
AutoCAD is the world’s most popular computer-aided drafting package for the personal computer. It is a fully functional 2D and 3D CAD program. Full 3D wire frame representation was incorporated in the program with the launch of Release 10 way back in 1988. These capabilities were enhanced with Releases 11 and 12. R12 saw the first Windows version. Further enhancements, such as the, much praised, ACIS solid modeller and Windows 95 and NT compatibility came with R13 and the current R14. Its popularity has made AutoCAD the defacto industry standard for PC-CAD with a host of other program developers providing application software conforming to the AutoCAD format.
