Abstract

The first time I was contacted by Dr Michael Stecker proved to be quite an eye-opener for somebody in my position, struggling to explore the deep sky through heavily light polluted UK skies. At that time I was Director of the Deep Sky Section of the British Astronomical Association, author of a regular column on deep sky observing in one of the UK’s astronomy periodicals, actively observing (mostly involving a distinctly unfruitful supernova patrol) and occasionally writing about my love of observational astronomy.
