Abstract
Some techniques of complex variable theory, particularly contour integration, provide useful methods for dealing with certain problems of wave theory and are outlined in the present chapter. It is assumed that the reader will be reasonably familiar with the basic ideas of complex numbers, which are therefore described only briefly. The book by Carrier, (1966) provides a good account of basic theory with applications.
