Part of the book series: Computer Supported Cooperative Work ((CSCW))

Abstract

A recent report by Lord Ron Dearing1 and the National Committee of Inquiry into Higher Education published recently includes recommendations on how the purposes, shape, structure and funding of higher education should develop to meet the needs of the United Kingdom over the next 20 years. While this review is aimed specifically at UK higher education, there is nothing particularly special about the UK system in respect of the need continually to increase efficiency. As a result, many of the report’s conclusions are applicable in an international context.
