Abstract

The Sun is so bright and so angularly large that there are many specialist instruments that have been developed specifically for observing it in different ways. Some of these instruments are potentially affordable to an amateur astronomer able to purchase a 0.2 m (8 inch) Schmidt-Cassegrain telescope, others may be potentially constructable by a keen DIY enthusiast. Most such instruments, however, must be exclusive to a large, well-funded research team (Chapter 10).
