Abstract
There are some who question whether humans can survive a voyage as daunting as the one being described in this book. After all, it may not be a question of whether humans will reach Callisto, but whether they will be able to return to Earth because the medical problems will be daunting in the extreme. Here, in Chapter 8, we’ll discuss the insidious effects of radiation on the human body, the deleterious consequences of bone and muscle deconditioning, and the countermeasures available to the crew.
